Visions of the Future and the Power in Prayer (Daniel 9)
This was part of a series on the prophetic visions in the last half of the book of Daniel. It contrasts a biblical view of prayer, as seen in the life of Daniel, with cultural views of what prayer is all about. When we approach God in prayer the way Daniel did, we become people who can receive his awesome power. Direct download

Heroes of Faith
This was a talk I gave at Woodbridge in our series "Heavenly Heroes," based on the Old Testament heroes of faith in Hebrews 11:1-7. I talk about what faith is—the kind of faith that pleases God—and what it looks like in our lives. In contrast, our culture views faith as a private, emotional belief, and not the active trust in a loving Father that characterizes the lives of the men and women we read about in Hebrews 11. Evading Jagged Rocks
This talk was given in our series "Shipwrecked," based on 1 Tim. 1:19, where Paul writes about those who experience shipwreck in their faith. This installment in the series is about the jagged rocks we crash on, which can keep us from the abundant life that the Lord has for us. It's based on the Parable of the Sower in Luke 8. The Kingdom: Our Place in His Plan
This was the closing talk in our series on the parables of Jesus, and it covers the parables immediately following the parable of the sower (Matt 13:24-44). It contrasts our current cultural perspective that we are at the center of the universe (and the consequences of living out that perspective) with Jesus' depiction of God's kingdom, and our place in it. Discipleship: Philippians 3:12-14
This is a talk I gave as part of the Biola Faculty Chapel Series on November 18, 1998. I was privileged and blessed to have the chance to speak to the student body and see so many students I had taught over the previous four years. I had been teaching at Biola for close to eight years at this point. This talk was at the core of what I brought to college students in my classes over the course of my time there. Direct download
